It was 5:14 AM when I heard the sirens echoing downtown and parted the curtains for a look outside. The Fire Department was responding to reports of smoke from the parking structure at Circus-Circus!
A car was in flames on the top leve of the parking garage; grey smoke spouted hundreds of feet above the nearby buildings.
5:20: The flames reach the interior; glass shattering in the intense heat to draw in oxygen to feed the hungry fire.
5:23: The heat of the blaze ignites the tires. Bright flames and black smoke boiling outward and upward. The firemen reach the scene.
5:25:
The car is now totally involved; a perimeter is being blocked off by emergency vehicles.
Through the light of the blaze, two firemen approach.
5:28: The smoke turns to steam. Great white clouds billow upward.
5:31: The fire is out. As the steam clears, the car becomes visible again. Resting on its tireless rims, hood open, it is reduced to a blackened metal shell.
6:00 The fire crews are collecting equipment and rolling up hoses. It’s one hour before dawn on day two of the Gunblogger Rendezvous.
Time for breakfast!
8:00 AM The Remains of the once noble Chevy Lumina; forlornly abandoned and ravaged by fire, sits atop the lonely precipice of the parking garage.
To every thing, there is a season … the Lumina has indeed met an untimely demise.
