The Firearm Blog featured a post on the Tactilite .50 BMG AR-15 Upper that spurred some interest here as well.
The Technical specifications (from Zel Custom Manufacturing’s site are here:
Standard Composition of all Tactilite(TM) Uppers:
- Receiver: CNC-machined from a single piece of 4130 alloy steel
- Barrel extension: CNC-machined from 4140 alloy steel
- Bolt: CNC-machined from a single piece of 4130 tubing
- Bolt head: 2-lug, CNC-machined from 4340 alloy steel
- Muzzle Brake: 8-port, fish-gill style
- Replacement Hammer: CNC-machined from 1018 steel, case-hardened
- Scope Mount: CNC-milled from a single piece of 7075 aluminum extrusion
The AR-Upper I took to the Gunblogger Rendezvous II was a single shot also, but it’s design required disconnecting the rear pin from the receiver to reload and to manually re-cock the hammer.
The Tactilite .50 looks like a much better way to go!
