California Wildfire

Smoke from several large wildfires which flared across Southern California on October 22, 2007 is shown in this image taken at 1:55 p.m. U.S. Pacific Daylight Time taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite, and released by NASA October 23. The house of friends from Ramona, CA was overrun by fast moving fires yesterday, forcing their evacuation. At 5:00 AM, their hotel was evacuated as the fire jumped the freeway.

Contending with 250,000 other evacuating residents from the San Diego area for hotel space, the closest lodging available was found in El Segundo, near LAX.

It’s a bad situation there.
