A nice flight in, a quick cab ride to the Circus-Circus and Traction Control is in the house!
Some interesting insights, via the cab driver, “Reno is going condo all over downtown.” He named three or four casinos that I could see in various stages of remodeling.
“The Indian gaming has hit Reno hard,” he explained. “Over the hill, on the Sacramento side of Auburn are the new Tribal casinos. Experts studying the impact estimate that Reno’s casino traffic will be off by some 46%, with Californians opting to avoid the snows of the pass near Truckee, CA.”
I remember Auburn as a pretty, and historic little gold rush town. The signs leading into the town proclaim “Auburn – Above the Smog, Below the Snow.” They may be experiencing a Gold Rush of another kind now.
