Airport Blogging – Houston bound

Gotta’ go. See you on the other side.

Arrived at 11:30 PM; as of now I am comfortably ensconced in my palatial suites above the Galleria. Sometimes travel has some surprises. This was one of those times.

Travel Tip: If it’s 300 miles or less, drive.

I left for the airport at 5:30 and hit :30 minutes of extra traffic. Waiting for the airport parking shuttle added another :25 minutes, so by the time I arrived at the counter to check in, the flight was boarding – too late to check bags.

The final touch was a change in departure gates – in a different terminal.

Time to punt.

I returned to the counter for a refund for the plane ticket; called the rental car company to cancel; hopped back on the shuttle to retrieve the car and drove.

The flight would have arrived at 8:40 PM. With the deplaning process; the walk through the terminal; the rental car shuttle and the drive to the hotel, I would have arrived at about 10:00 PM.

(If I had just driven from the house – and avoided the two hours at the airport, I would have arrived at 9:30 PM and saved about $600 spent on the flight and the rental car.)

300 miles or less? It’s quicker and cheaper to drive.
