Where does one turn for news without the filter on matters that are of National Interest? Not the Mainstream Media.

Over the last few days, I flagged articles related to the DREAM Act that is being stealthily worked into a Defense Appropriations Bill of all things.

I tracked 17 posts from the blogs I read; not a WORD from the media.

The Amnesty Pandering resumes.

(Some details from NumbersUSA)

Senators will consider an amendment (SA 2237) sponsored by Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), which is the DREAM Act. The gist of this proposal, which has been offered by Durbin the past few legislative sessions as a stand-alone bill (including this session as S. 774), is that DHS would be authorized to cancel removal for, or adjust to lawful permanent resident status (in other words, grant amnesty to), an alien who is inadmissible or deportable in cases where the alien demonstrated that he/she:

- has maintained continuous presence in the United States for five years and was not yet 16 years old upon initial entry;
-
is of “good moral character” and is not inadmissible or deportable on certain criminal grounds or on the basis of being a risk to national security; and
- has been admitted to an institution of higher education, has attained a high school diploma, or has obtained a GED in the United States.

The DREAM Act also would grant amnesty to illegal aliens who satisfy these criteria as of enactment. A gaping loophole exists, however, in this iteration of the DREAM Act, for there is no upper age limit. As a result, any illegal alien can walk into a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office and declare that he is eligible. For example, a 45-year-old can claim that he illegally entered the United States 30 years ago at the age of 15. There is no requirement that the alien prove that he entered the United States at the claimed time by providing particular documents. The proposal merely requires him to “demonstrate” that he is eligible-which in practice could mean simply making a sworn statement to that effect. Thus, it is an invitation for just about every illegal alien to fraudulently claim the amnesty.

UPDATE:

I just spoke with Kay Bailey Hutchison’s office staffers in Austin, Texas.

Her position is:

“She believes the Defense Bill should be pushed through and not held up by discussion of this matter!”

Graackk!!

Her Austin office number is 512-916-5834.

John Cornyn has “has not yet released a position statement” per his staff in Washington, DC. That number is 202-224-3121.

Charming, Just Charming

DON’T LET IT HAPPEN

The dim-a-crits and the RINOs just will not give up. They don’t have the gotdam balls to put up another amnesty bill that stands alone so they try to sneak one in attached to the defense bill…they are calling it the “Dream act” and here is what it will do if we let it pass:

–The Dream Act gives amnesty to any illegal alien claiming to have arrived in the U.S. prior to age 16.

–Any illegal alien can apply, no matter the current age. So if a 35 year old illegal can make a claim to have been in the U.S. prior to age 16, he can apply.

–Those who get amnesty through the Dream Act can then sponsor family members. It creates million of “anchor teens” who create a direct amnesty path for their family.

–Illegal aliens who apply cannot be deported.

–Plus, the bill allows illegals to get in-state tuition rates, meaning your tax dollars will pay for illegals to go to college!

I can think of numerous reasons that this is bullshit but I will give just one:

THIS IS ABETTING CRIMINALS!

There are only two answers to illegal immigration. Deport the criminals and lock up those who abet them. Of course if we lock up all who abet them we may have to import some Mexican prison guards…

They will never, ever stop until they get their open Mexican borders and their amnesty. Thank goodness a few people like the indispensible Mickey Kaus are shining a bright light on the swarming of the cucarachas behind the scenes.

You know the drill: Write, call, email your representatives. I’ve added a permanent link at the top of the sidebar to the Conservative Union’s congressional contact page.

Explain to them that you don’t support either amnesty or open borders, and until the US government can prove by demonstration that it can control its borders and enforce the laws it already has on the books, you will oppose any “comprehensive ” immigration “solution,” and you will punish any representatives who vote for such a thing.

Patterico’s Pontifications

It’s Mucho Amnesty!
[Guest post by DRJ]
Via Instapundit, Mickey Kaus says the next version of immigration reform is worse than the last:
“Democratic Sen. Durbin’s revived “DREAM Act” is typically billed as a way to address “the tragedy of young people”–students who were brought into the country when they were very young, and now want to attend college.
***
But it’s actually not that bad. It’s much, much worse! Kris Kobach persuasively argues that, thanks to loose drafting, it’s potentially a huge de facto legalization program of the sort many observers thought had been defeated.”
Kobach says that the Dream Act applies to anyone who illegally entered the US before age 16, has been in the US at least 5 years, and has been admitted to any technical, 2-year or 4-year college. It provides immigrants with an immediate conditional green card and they can request green card status for their parents.
The Dream Act also extends student loan and federal work-study benefits and repeals a 1996 federal law prohibiting states from offering in-state tuition to illegal immigrants unless out-of-state students receive the same tuition break.
There’s an extensive explanation and much more detail here. Please read it all.

Amnesty Is Back, Bit by Bit, Including $25 Mil for La Raza
A message from Pat S.
****
The message from the American people was border security first and it doesn’t make one damn bit of difference to these politicians! The trouble with conservatives is they think once the point has been won, it’s over. Remember all the glee about this won’t be back for at least two years? We have to battle every single day!

The L.A. Times story says the central conflict in the failed comprehensive bill was a path to legalization for illegals. That’s because we kept harping on amnesty which to me was a secondary matter. The central issue is border security. Nothing else should be considered until that is accomplished. Crackdowns and deportations, even though only for show, are useless without a secure border.

By the time Congress is done with piecemeal legislation, every conceivable life condition will make an illegal eligible for legal status. The magnet isn’t just jobs. Freebies are increasing. Chris Dodd wants to give La Raza $25 mil just for Hispanics. Republicans and Democrats will get into a bidding war with our money to win over the Hispanic vote.

What will it take to stop this? This issue should be a guaranteed win for a Republican in ’08.

Congress quietly returns to immigration [This article requires a log-in to the L.A. Times. If you want to bypass compulsory registration for that site or the multitude of others that require it, go to www.bugmenot.com for anonymous registrations.]

“Three months after Congress failed to pass a broad immigration overhaul, lawmakers are quietly returning to the hot-button issue, discussing narrower measures that address illegal immigrants and low-skilled laborers.

Deported criminals slip back into U.S.
Thousands of previously deported criminals are caught trying to slip back into the United States, and it’s likely thousands more return unnoticed. Those caught are eventually kicked out again, making for a revolving door of lawbreakers.

Tarrant County to consider giving immigrants indigent care
Now the Tarrant County Hospital Board of Managers is considering whether to allow illegal immigrants to receive free or low-cost nonemergency medical care. The board is expected to debate the issue and possibly decide Tuesday.

And last but not least, $25 million dollars for La Raza.

A Sleeper Amnesty: Time to Wake Up from the DREAM Act

The Heritage Foundation
Just three months after the Senate immigration bill met its well-deserved end, amnesty advocates in the U.S. Congress resumed their efforts. “Just three months after the Senate immigration bill met its well-deserved end, amnesty advocates in the U.S. Congress resumed their efforts. Recently, Senator Richard Durbin (D–IL) announced on the Senate floor his intention to offer the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act as an amendment to the defense authorization bill.

“The DREAM Act (S. 774) is a nightmare. It is a massive amnesty that extends to the millions of illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16. The illegal alien who applies for this amnesty is immediately rewarded with “conditional” lawful permanent resident (green card) status, which can be converted to a non-conditional green card in short order. The alien can then use his newly acquired status to seek green cards for the parents who brought him in illegally in the first place. In this way, it is also a backdoor amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens who brought their children with them to the United States.

“What is less well known about the DREAM Act is that it also allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public universities, discriminating against U.S. citizens from out of state and law-abiding foreign students. It repeals a 1996 federal law that prohibits any state from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens unless the state also offers in-state tuition rates to all U.S. citizens.

“On its own, the DREAM Act never stood a chance of passing. Every scientific opinion poll on the subject has shown over 70 percent opposition to giving in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens.

“Not surprisingly, the DREAM Act languished in committee for five years after it was first introduced in 2001—until the opportunity arose to hitch it to the Senate’s “comprehensive” immigration bills of 2006 and 2007.

For detailed article……………you can CLICK HERE at The Heritage Foundation to read the rest of the article.

Many of the Senators who helped us kill the Comprehensive Amnesty in June are indicating they are in favor of these preferences for illegal foreign workers and new foreign workers over American workers.

And there is THIS…………….

Immigration Again

National Review
Senate Democrats plan to use the defense authorization bill next week to revive a provision from the failed immigration overhaul that would put some children of illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

Meanwhile, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is working to bring to the floor another provision from the immigration bill (S 1639) that would create a guest worker program for up to 1.5 million agricultural workers (S 340).

Both efforts are likely to rekindle the kind of heated debate that engulfed the Senate when the immigration overhaul measure was being considered in June.

Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., is expected to offer an amendment to the defense bill (HR 1585) that would attach legislation (S 774) to allow children of illegal immigrants who entered the United States before age 16 and lived here at least five years to gain conditional legal status and eventual citizenship if they attend college or join the military for at least two years.

Durbin said Wednesday he is working on the amendment and contacting colleagues to gauge support.

“The Department of Defense has endorsed this, and I think it would be of value,” he said in an interview.

Durbin said Feinstein is searching for the right vehicle. One possibility could be the upcoming five-year farm bill, which is expected to reach the Senate floor next month.

Injecting immigration into the defense debate could be a risky move, with Republicans likely to accuse Democrats of tying up legislation needed to help U.S. troops.

Moreover, even supporters of more lenient treatment of illegal immigrants have expressed doubts that any such measure could pass after the crushing blow it suffered June 28, when proponents failed to get even a majority of votes to end debate on the comprehensive bill.

Durbin said he’s aware of such reservations, but he suggested that waiting until next year, when election-year politics will be in full bloom, would make it even more difficult to act.

He noted that senators from both parties had approached him immediately after the broader bill fell and encouraged him to move forward with the education legislation, known as the DREAM Act.

“I think there is room here for senators who opposed the comprehensive bill to still support the DREAM Act,” Durbin said.

Among those working with him to advance the measure will be Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., sponsor of the broader immigration bill. An aide to Kennedy said Durbin’s amendment is relevant to the defense bill because it would offer an incentive for children seeking legal status to join the military.

“There will be a strong effort to get this done this year,” the aide said.

Wild Thing’s comment………..

I am sick and tired of this crap. This means more phone calls and Fax’s again to these jerks that will NOT see laws for immigration are meant to mean something.

So I am going to be back once again telling them anyone who votes for it is a traitor.

This one is even worse since they are trying to attach it to a defense spending bill. They have to know that we are watching. And that any immigration bill should not be slipped thru tied to any other bill. If they are sooooo proud of it let stand on its own. In front of God and everyone. Either way they will see the outrage it will get, but at least show us a tiny bit of respect and do it out in the open for pete’s sake.
