Any qualifying traits? Defining characteristics? A questionnaire? A minimum standard? A smell test? A hurdle? A speed bump? A firewall? A qualification?

So … that’s OK? Nope. There’s your problem right there. Letting anyone into the party who doesn’t carry the shield sets the party up for implosion and failure. Allowing candidates to self-declare their party without qualification is a quick recipe for infiltration and certain destruction.

Not very Republican-esque, if you ask me.
One of the reasons our political system is so messed up is that in most states the parties have no control over who gets nominated under their banner.
One of the many well intentioned reforms of the Progressives, who had a horror of “smoke filled rooms” (long before the smoking part became a cause).
